My county, Ashe County, North Carolina, along with MANY MANY rural communities in West North Carolina, suffered catastrophic damage from Hurricane Helene.
As I type this I am on day 8 without power and much of our county will be WEEKS more without power, internet, cell service, etc. We have elderly who cannot leave their homes because their roads or driveways or bridges have washed away, WHOLE houses floated away (literally), people were stranded for days without supplies, and we are looking at rebuilding for YEARS.
I wrote more details here in this post —> https://jessicastansberry.substack.com/p/3000-feet-in-elevation-and-wiped
Donation efforts are still being organized so I'll be adding to this page as things progress:
The Local Food Bank
My county was an impoverished area BEFORE Helene and things like this highlight and expand food needs. This is the link to donate to the local food bank so they can continue to provide food and meals to our community.
Rebuild Lansing Businesses
An entire town of businesses washed away during the storm – literally. This town is NEAR AND DEAR to my heart, it's my hometown; the grocery store has been there since the early 1900s and is a staple for people on that end of the county and in the past few years, dedicated people who LOVE the town have worked hard to make it a place of community and beauty and it all washed away.
This fund will help them rebuild.
