7 Things to Watch on Netflix if You Like Social Media Marketing
Let's be honest – we all need a good Netflix show to binge watch right now. With a global pandemic, cold winter months, and the holidays approaching, a good movie or show is a welcome escape from the real world. So, here's a list of 7 things to watch on Netflix if you like social media marketing!
7 Things to Watch on Netflix if You Like Social Media Marketing

Keep reading for a list of shows and movies that I recommend on Netflix if you're into social media and/or social media marketing. Some of them are more directly related than others, but I think you'll understand why they made the list!
Mad Men

Mad Men takes place way before social media marketing was a thing. But it remains a testament to traditional advertising in really cool ways. My personal favorite example of this is the famous Carousel scene, where Don Draper is pitching an idea to Kodak about their new slide projector. If you’re into marketing (or just really good drama shows), Mad Men is for you.
Emily in Paris

This one should be no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention to social media over the past few months. Emily in Paris is one of those guilty pleasure shows that you can’t stop watching! It’s French, it’s got love stories and workplace drama, and it showcases a lot of examples of social media marketing. (She makes it look way too easy most of the time.)

The Circle

The Circle is basically a game show about wannabe influencers. Though I haven’t personally watched this one yet, I’ve heard raving reviews! The contestants all live in the same building, but they never meet face-to-face – their only interactions are through a specially designed social media app. And the last person standing wins a $100,000 prize!
People hanging out alone and trying to seem cool on social media? Count me in.
Social Dilemma

Netflix released the Social Dilemma documentary earlier this year. It focuses on what’s happening behind-the-scenes on social media that makes us come back every time. There’s a serious shock factor here, and anyone who cares about social media marketing needs to give it a watch.
You

Okay, okay, hear me out… You is certainly a scary, creepy, messed up (and addictive) show. Don’t watch this one if you aren’t a fan of scary movies, or tend to get squeamish if you see blood. But nonetheless, You is a great example of just how much social media means in the modern day. It’s a way to find out a LOT of info about other people, or a way to hide your actual identity. If you’re looking for a thriller and you’re interested in exploring the darker side of social media, give You a watch.
FYRE: The Greatest Party that Never Happened

This documentary is a fascinating look at what was really going on behind the scenes of FYRE Festival – I couldn’t look away once I started watching it. This is a less gory look at the darker sides of social media. FYRE Festival was hyped up like crazy on social media by some seriously big names – and in reality, the event was nothing more than smoke, mirrors, and well-edited Insta posts.
Love, Guaranteed

I LOVED this movie, and I guarantee you will too (ha, see what I did there?). The main character is a man who used a dating site that “guaranteed” love in 1,000 dates. When he doesn’t find love within the time frame they guaranteed, he seeks a lawyer to sue. And traditional rom-com moments ensue! The power of the internet and social media is evident here in a really sweet way.
Bonus: Nailed It

I’m half-kidding with this one, but half-serious… If you have a Pinterest account… watch Nailed It. It will make you feel much better about those times you’ve had Pinterest fails in the kitchen.
Now, go enjoy some Netflix and take a load off! (When you need to get back down to business, you can go read my blog post about how to stay productive when you're working from home. Shifting gears from binge watching to emails is tough for everyone.)
