Reels have become very popular in the world of content creation and social media. They are a unique and engaging way to share stories and connect with your audience. Whether it’s for entertainment, education, or promotion, reels have proven to be an important tool in today's content strategies. To save you tons of time, you can repurpose your YouTube videos to create reels! Let’s talk about how.
Step 1: Choose Your Clips
Take the video you’re using and put it into whatever software you use to edit, if it’s not already there. From there you’ll want to go through and rewatch your video clipping/marking any clips you think you might want to turn into a reel. You can make informational reels, teaser reels, funny reels, etc…You can also make multiple reels from one video. Just try to keep them around 30-60 seconds each.
Step 2: Resize & Export
Once you’ve chosen your clips, you’ll want to put each of them into a new event so that you can edit them. For resizing, you’ll need to modify the video so that it’s in vertical format. From here you can drag your clip to fit the screen. If you don’t like the way this looks you can play around with it until you find something you like. For example, you might prefer to duplicate the clip, make it blurry, and drag it underneath so that your clip doesn’t haven’t to take up the whole screen like the image below.
Once you’re satisfied with your reel, it’s time to export! For reels, you will want high quality so be sure to share in 4K (or as close as you can get).
Step 3: Import Your Reel to Descript
If you don’t use Descript, you’re really missing out! It’s AMAZING and super easy to use. They also have very reasonable prices that you can find here.
Once you have descript, you can create a new project and upload your file. From there, Descript will ask you if you want to transcribe your video and switch composition to video, and you’ll choose yes for both of those things.
Next, you can customize your reel. By clicking the “T” button at the top of the page, you can add titles, subtitles, text, and captions. Once added, you can customize them on the left hand side of the screen!
Step 4: Export & Share
Once your reel is ready to go, all that’s left to do is export. This is super easy! You’ll just click “publish” then slide over to “export.” Make sure the export settings are set to “current composition” and the quality is high before exporting. After exporting, you’ll have a beautiful reel to share wherever you want!
Ta-da! You’re all done. It’s THAT easy to repurpose your YouTube videos to create reels. Why work harder when you can work smarter?! Let’s get to making those reels.
