Welcome back to another adventure into the depths of my YouTube journey. Over the years, I've accumulated quite the collection of camera gear. Today, I want to take you through my experience, my setup, and what I'd recommend for anyone starting their YouTube journey in 2024.
The Camera Collection
I've owned a lot of cameras. Seriously, a lot. From point-and-shoots to mirrorless wonders, my desk is a testament to my camera obsession. Here’s a quick rundown of what I have:
- Sony A7S III: This has been with me since 2020, and I still haven't unlocked all of it's features.
- Sony ZV-1: My go-to for office filming, paired with a 20mm f/1.8 lens.
- DJI Osmo Pocket 3: This little guy is a powerhouse, perfect for vlogging and versatile enough for almost any situation.
- Various Webcams and Phones: I've repurposed old gear and kept my phone handy for quick shots.
If I Were Starting in 2024
Knowing what I know now, I'd start much simpler if I were beginning on YouTube in 2024. Here's my ideal setup for a new YouTuber:
- DJI Osmo Pocket 3: This compact camera is a game-changer. It offers excellent video quality, a built-in gimbal for smooth shots, and fantastic audio options. It’s versatile enough for both studio and on-the-go filming.
- Sony ZV-1: Perfect for a stationary setup in the office. Its intelligent auto settings make it easy to get great shots without fussing with too many controls.
- Good Microphone: Audio is crucial. I recommend the Sony wireless hot shoe mount mic for in-office recording and the DJI Mic 2 for more mobility.
My Current Office Setup
My office has undergone a significant overhaul to accommodate my filming needs. Here's a peek into my current setup:
- Lighting: Natural light is my primary source, thanks to the big windows in my office. I use blackout curtains to control the lighting when needed. I plan to install more permanent lighting solutions soon.
- Organization: Keeping my space tidy helps me stay productive. I recently did a major clean-up, clearing out bags of trash and organizing my gear. My desk now has a quick-release plate for my Sony A7S III, making it easy to switch between filming setups.
- Charging Station: I use the TR Charge from Peter Lindgren. This nifty device charges three batteries simultaneously and has slots for SD cards. It’s perfect for keeping everything ready to go.
Lessons Learned
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is the importance of having gear that simplifies the process. More gear isn't always better. It's about having the right tools that make creating content easier and more enjoyable.
Conclusion
That's a wrap on my camera gear journey! If you're starting your YouTube adventure in 2024, keep it simple and focus on versatility and ease of use. I've shared my recommendations and a glimpse into my setup to help you get started!
